Vintage Finds and Recent Buys

12 Oct

Thrifting is a really cool way to find unique clothing, furniture, and decorative pieces.
As long as you have a good eye and an open mind thrifting can be a great way to expand your closet, find collectibles, and furnish your home.

Yesterday I went to a Vintage warehouse with a close friend. She goes often but it was my first time. It was amazing! I’ve been thrifting before but never at a store that was focused on vintage. She found some beautiful decorative pieces and a rad 80s concert Tee and I bought the following…

The Wanted are going to NYC

5 Oct

The Wanted are going to be performing at the Gramercy Theater in New York City on October 25th!
This is so exciting!
I would KILL to go to this show! I absolutely love The Wanted and I am dying to see them live and this seems like my only chance. My mother is super strict and will probably never let me go. I’ll have to win her over because this seems like the chance of a lifetime. Imagine to be close enough to touch Tom Parker? EEEEP! I would die!

This post really has no purpose other than me fan-girling over The Wanted coming to the states.

Fall 2011 Trends That I Am Loving (Part 2)

15 Sep

1. Neutrals and Dark colors

I’m currently loving neutral makeup. NOT natural. Neutral tones that can be toned down for a day look and played up for a night look by making it darker or adding shimmer. My favorite eye shadow colors for fall are taupes, bronzes, golds, dark and rich browns, blacks and rose golds. I also like smokey purples and lavenders. Purple is one of my go-to color and really makes my eyes pop. During the summer I used neon purple and plums. For Fall I’m using shimmery lavenders to give a soft smokey effect. I’m still loving nude lips. I think a nude lip can really glam up and polish a make up look. I’m also loving darker nudes, reds, and blacks. I’ve been wearing a filled, arched brow with long lashes and contour instead of blusher.

A makeup collection that I think works really well for Fall is the Sleek Nude Collection. I’m lusting after their Barely There Pout Polish and their Blusher in Suede. Some nude and dark nude lippies that I think will work for different skin tones are NYX’s Thalia, Creamy Beige, Circe, Perfect, Stone, Frosted Flaskes, Iris, Rea, and Ares lipsticks.

I personally like matte or shine lipsticks not frosts, glitters, or iridescent.

The makeup products I’ve been using this month:

The Wet and Wild Vanity Palette
I absolutely LOVE this little eye shadow palette! I bought it in mid July and am hitting pan on the matte shadows! ):
I’m going to buy two next time I see them! They’re available at most drugstores that sell Wet and Wild products but it depends on how many products the store carries. You just have to keep an eye out. For $4-5 this is a steal. The three shadows on the left are matte and the three on the right are shimmery. Depending on how you use it, it can be casual or over the top and glamorous. I use this everyday and use a mix of two darker matte shades for my brows.

NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in London and Tokyo and NYX Round Lipstick in Circe and Paris
As I mentioned in my NYX post, I adore this product! London is beautiful matte nude and Tokyo is a baby pink. I believe they are the two pictured in the center of the picture above or those may be Stockholm and Istanbul which are similar. I like to wear London alone or layered under Tokyo for a pinky-nude. Circe is a true nude that matches my skin perfectly. It gives the effect of a concealer but with great shine. Paris is a Mid-tone pink. I like to wear Circe either layered over top of London or blended together with Paris.

2. Wedges and Platforms

I think wedges and platforms combine fashion and function. They give you height, look fabulous and don’t kill your feet. I’m currently looking for a pair of suede wedges such as the ones in the middle. I’ve been wearing a pair of strappy leather wedges from Target that add about 5 inches to  my height and 3 inch heel leather ankle booties. I look for these at stores like Ross, Marshalls, and TJ Maxx because they often have brands like Steve Madden, Kenneth Cole, and Jessica Simpson for a great price. My Madden Girl ankle boots were only $20 at Ross.

3. Chunky chain jewelery and lots of rings

I’m loving chunky jewelry this season. Lots of chains, studs, mixed metals, crucifixes, and stones. I’m especially loving pewter, bronze and distressed metals. I also like mixing different metals and stones. I feel like it gives an outfit lots of texture which is something I really like in an outfit. Forever 21 is a great place to shop for inexpensive yet on-trend jewelry.

Alright so that’s all I have for today! Hope this inspired someone!

Fall 2011 Trends That I Am Loving (Part 1)

14 Sep

This blog post is about trends and pieces that I am loving for Fall/Autumn 2011. Keep in mind that I live in a very moderate/warm climate so my Fall looks may not be suited for colder climates. I have my own personal style, some people might think it’s tacky, plain, boring, outdated, or whatever but I still hope that some may draw some inspiration. These are just a few for now, I’ll post more during the week and hopefully do some sort of look-book before the end of September. Well, on with it!

Recent Parcels HAUL

3 Sep

Since school has started my house has become a hot-spot for USPS haha.
I’ve been receiving my textbooks and makeup products in the mail.
(Nice to know where my priorities are!)
Some products you have already seen (The NYX and UD products), and now I’m going to show you and quickly review the rest.
E.L.F. recently had a sale/promotion going on. They had a sale on mineral products, and coupon codes for free shipping and one for 10 free $1 products. I hope some of you took advantage of this! I highly recommend that you sign up for emails on E.L.F.’s website so that you can receive coupon codes if you have any interest in buying E.L.F. products.
When you order from E.L.F. you can only use on coupon code per order so I chose the 10 free items.
These are the products I got:

I got 4 makeup brushes, a silver/pewter makeup bag, a mascara primer, the lip plumper/primer duo, the brow gel/treatment duo, a cuticle treatment, a matte nail varnish, the zit zapper, a cheek tint, brow stencils, a cheek highlighter, a setting liquid, foundation, and they threw in a free lip gloss.

Not much to say on these quite yet… The brushes are nice for the price although the blending brush sheds like crazy. It’s really frustrating because I wear contact lenses and the hairs stick to them and make me want to claw my eyes out.

I’ve used the foundation once. My skin is tricky to match, I have more of a green tone and the foundations have a peachy/orange tone. Overall I like the formula it has a dewy  finish but gets greasy looking fast so I have to powder it. I love the packaging. It looks really nice and almost high-end. I also love the fact that it has a pump! So instead of spilling the foundation out you can just pump what you need.

The mascara primer is comparable to most drugstore primers. It’s a thinner formula than those that I’ve used so you have to wait for the coats to dry before applying more. Works really well but just takes a little longer than my other primers.

The highlight must have separated in the mail. There’s a runny liquid that flows out and some product just sits.  Try squishing the tube to mix it and apply it on your hand and mix before dabbing a tiny amount on your cheeks.

I’ve just barely tested some of the actual products so I’ll review them once I actually have had a chance to use them.

I also finally ordered some circle lenses from Pinky Paradise!
Unfortunately, the New Adult Green lenses I had been LUSTING after were not available in prescription, so I had to look around for another pair. I ended up ordering Tsubasa’s Bambi series lenses in Apple Green. They’re a more natural green than the New Adult lenses but they are BEAUTIFUL.

Here they are sitting in the case. Pinky Paradise also sent me a free case that is shaped like two cute green bears and one of those hair tools that has velcro on it to hold your hair back. The lenses really are lovely and have a natural, but noticeable enlarging effect. Unfortunately due to some strange mix-up they are not prescription. The bottles have my prescription written on them, but the lenses are plano…. it was really disappointing. I’m currently working with their customer service to get this resolved.
Pinky Paradise honestly has some of the best customer service I’ve dealt with. They are always friendly and fast to respond.
Hopefully this will get resolved soon and I’ll be able to write a review on these.

NYX LIPSTICK SWATCHES

16 Aug

My NYX Lipsticks came in the mail today!
A little soft and melty but they were fine after 30 mins in the fridge.
Overall I’d say they were good. I was pleased with 3/4 of the products I had ordered.
I absolutely love the formula. Opaque, non-sticky, non-drying, glossy. Exactly how I like my lipsticks.
There were some disappointments in regards to color but the quality is great for the price.
